He plans to retire at the end of his term.

“In interim,” Holland said from an emotional delivery from the House floor. “I plan to address life with the gusto of a hound dog.”

Holland has served as a democratic representative for district 16, comprised of Lee and Monroe counties, since 1984.

According to Holland’s legislative biography, he is a Mason and a Shriner and is affiliated with Lambda Chi Alpha, Civitan Club and the National Funeral Directors’ Association. He is the former Aide to Congressman Jamie Whitten and Senator Thad Cochran.

Holland operates Holland Funeral Directors–his former building has been donated for a new community library.

Holland serves on the following committees:

· Medicaid
· Transportation

The representative had planned to retire last year, but said he was urged by his constituents to stay.
