Voting Machines: How Accurate Are They?

JACKSON, Miss.- When you’re headed to the polls, wouldn’t it be nice to know that your vote is actually counting for something? Rumors have been popping up all across the country of electronic voting machines being hacked.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann assures that Mississippi does not have that issue, and that the issue occurs in states that have electronic voting machines as opposed to the old-fashioned way.

“These are states like California, and some others,” Hosemann said. “And they come along and they say ‘look, what we want to do is have real quick reporting. We want to get all of this stuff out right away, instantaneous, as you go along throughout the day. And also, somebody in China can cast your ballot.”

Hosemann added that Mississippi is just fine doing it the old-fashioned way.

“All of our machines are programmed at the location in the circuit clerk’s office, usually the week of the election,” Hosemann said. “So after that, we do not go on the internet. So those machines actually run a tabulation individually.”
