A couple in Warren County is behind bars facing charges for the sexual abuse of two children.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace has confirmed that 47-year-old James Willie Ross, Jr has been charged two counts of sexual battery and one count of statutory rape of a child under the age of 12. Ross is a registered sex offender stemming from a prior conviction in Shelby, Tennessee.

36-year-old Canary Johnson has been charged with two counts of accessory after the fact to sexual battery.

Sheriff Pace says that charges are the result of an investigation which began on January 4th after the department received a tip regarding the sexual abuse of the children. Johnson was initially arrested, and a warrant was issued for Ross. A search was conducted to locate him, but Ross eventually turned himself in to investigators.

The couple is behind held without bond following their initial appearance in court. The children are now in the custody of child protective services.
