Waters to rise in Mississippi River

VICKSBURG, Miss.- Officials are warning residents near the Mississippi River that waters could be rising.

A flood is expected and it could be worse than that of 2011. The National Weather Service has a prediction that on January 15th the waters will rise and crest at 54 feet.

Flood stage is set at 43 feet and on Monday waters were said to be nearly 37 feet high.

MEMA is trying to give resident and businesses plenty of time to prepare for the possible waters. The recent bad weather and heavy rains have contributed to the quick rate in which the waters have risen.
