Weekly Rundown: Gravel pit recovery effort, road rage shooting, and a wild, heartwarming hug

JACKSON, MISS–Here’s this week’s top stories all in one place.

The top story of this week-and still the top story–the recovery effort at Green Brothers Gravel in Crystal Springs. It has taken nearly a week to locate the body of one of the two missing men. While one worker has been found, out of respect for the family, the names will be released together once both bodies have been recovered.

Another big story of the week.. imagine you’re driving down the interstate.. you change lanes, and maybe you accidentally cut off.. what happens next? You probably wouldn’t expect to be shot in the head, but that nightmare came to reality this week in Rankin county, on I-20.. a statewide search began for Brett Davis and Andrews Walters of Picayune.. the shooting happened in Pearl on Wednesday, and the two were picked up in Biloxi–164 miles away– on Thursday. The victim, though shot in the head, was able to give police information to find the two men.. and he’s recovering in the hospital. Davis and Walters are charged with attempted murder.

In lighter news, a hero finally got a hug from the one he saved. A man by the name of Doug rescued a horned owl in Vancleave. After Doug had to leave Gigi at the Wild at Heart Animal rescue while he took a trip to Michigan, he came back to the owl’s loving and grateful embrace. Full on hug, a wing over each shoulder.
