Weekly Rundown: Officer charged with daughter’s death, Teacher caught on camera dragging a student, weekend events

Jackson, Miss– Here are this week’s top story all-in-one place. 

  • Former Long Beach officer, Cassie Barker, was charged, arrested, and released on bond this week for the manslaughter of her 3 year-old daughter, Cheyenne Hyer. Hyer died after being left in a Long Beach Police car for four hours, while Barker visited the home of fellow officer Clark Ladner. They were both also relieved of their duties.
  • A Greenville High School teacher was caught on camera dragging a student by her hair, and hitting her. The student is described as having special needs. The school district confirmed the videos and an investigation, but would not comment further.
  • There are plenty of events happening around the state this weekend. Cruisin’ the Coast, The Mississippi State Fair, and the Tallahatchie River Festival.
