West Nile Virus: Two More People Infected in Mississippi

JACKSON, MISS– Two more people have been infected with West Nile Virus; one person in Hinds County, the other in Rankin County. 

This brings this year’s total to 39 people infected so far and one person has died from West Nile. Last year, 43 people were infected and 7 died.

The infection has been diagnosed in Adams, Attala, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Hinds, Lauderdale, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Rankin, Simpson, Washington and Yazoo counties. One person died in Attala county.

You can avoid West Nile Virus by preventing mosquito bites. Wear repellant containing DEET, loose, light-colored clothing, and remove standing water from around your home, as water attracts mosquitoes.
