Wife, In-Laws Held Hostage During Sunday Stand-off

KILN, Miss.–It was a hostage situation in Kiln early Sunday morning, before church. But, nobody was physically hurt and after about three hours, everyone was out of the house. Peter Dougherty is now in jail, being held without bond.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Dept. is investigating exactly what went on, but the early investigation said that Dougherty used a gun to hold his wife, a 13-month old baby, and his in-laws hostage in their home.

Dougherty was already in violation of a restraining order and had a warrant out for his arrest.

The incident started about 6:45 Sunday morning. The father-in-law was able to get away and call 911.

After a while, he released the mother-in-law and after negotiations with deputies, let his wife and child go, then surrendered.
