Deputies: woman confessed to shooting her husband then trying to kill herself

Over the weekend a police say a woman confessed to shooting her husband and then herself.

Lincoln County Deputy Johnny Hall said that 81-year-old Evelyn Hanks shot and killed her husband and then tried to kill herself on Saturday morning.

The victim was 83-year-old Eugene Hanks who authorities say was shot several times. She then turned the gun on herself and fired twice in the chest, but she survived her injuries.

Police received a call around 9:20 a.m. that morning from Evelyn reporting the shooting. When deputies arrived she confessed to shooting her husband on the scene. She was then taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Authorities are still investigating.
