Woman Fired For Social Media Celebration of Deaths of Hattiesburg Officers

LAUREL, Miss.  A Laurel woman has been fired by a sandwich restaurant after her Facebook post in which she celebrated the weekend murders of two Hattiesburg police officers.

In the post, Sierra McCurdy wrote, “2 police officers was shot in Hattiesburg tonight.  Got EM” and included with it emojis depicting guns and laughing faces.  The post also contained a selfie in which McCurdy, dressed in her Subway uniform, was smiling.

Subway, in a statement explaining the firing,  denounced the behavior, calling it unacceptable.

Officers Benjamin Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 25, were both shot during a routine traffic stop and later died  at Forrest General Hospital.  Four people have been arrested in the case.
