Working Over Time: Wicker Supports Bill That Would Require Private Companies to Pay or Give PTO

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Work any over time this week? A new bill in DC could make sure you get paid for it, even if you work for a private company, and it’s getting a Mississippi push.

Sen. Roger Wicker (R) has cosponsored a bill that would allow American workers the choice of receiving either traditional overtime pay or paid time off for any overtime hours worked.  The legislation was introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky).

“Working men and women are busier than ever balancing professional and family obligations,” said Wicker. “Congress should do its part to make sure government regulations are not making their lives more difficult. I commend Leader McConnell and Senator Lee for their work on this issue and urge my colleagues to support this sensible, pro-family legislation.”

The measure, S. 233, would eliminate an outdated regulation to give private-sector employees the same choices that federal government employees already enjoy.
