YAZOO COUNTY, Miss- There was a house fire in Benton along Rusche Road in Yazoo County. Firemen responded to the fire on Tuesday night. Shortly after, Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers was called to the scene to confirm a dead body inside.
The woman has been identified as 84-year-old Velma Granderson.
It was reported that family members tried to rescue Ganderson but were not able to get to her in time. Benton and Bentonia fire departments are investigating the cause of the fire.
Ganderson has been scheduled for an autopsy to determine cause of death.
