A traffic stop has led to a significant drug bust in Rankin County.

A careless driving violation led to the initial stop on I-55 in Madison, and an officer with the Rankin/Madison Interdiction Unit noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the car.

A K-9 unit then alerted the officers to the presence of approximately 103 pounds of marijuana. After the pot was discovered, Lanekia Michelle Brown of Grenada and Marcus Anthony Redrick of Hutchins, Texas, were arrested and charged for Drug Trafficking.

Agents with the City of Grenada along with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics conducted search warrants at “locations” belonging to Brown where an additional two pounds of marijuana were discovered along with packaging material and scales used for distribution.

Brown and Redrick are being held without bond.
