MT. OLIVE, Miss.–Rep. Joe Warren has decided to make the 2015 legislative session his last. The long-time lawmaker will step down and not seek re-election after 36 years. He made the announcement Tuesday, reported WDAM.
Warren, a Democrat, began his career in the Mississippi House in 1980. He is also a realtor, an attorney and a cattle farmer by trade.
“People have been real good to me, and I have been blessed,” said Warren in a statement, regarding representing Covington, Jefferson Davis, Simpson, Marion and Forrest counties.
Warren is the chairman of the Local and Private Legislation Committee for the House, and he serves on the Appropriations; Compilation, Revision and Publication; Constitution; Education; Judiciary, Division B; Public Utilities; and Rules committees.
He said he may run for chancery clerk of Covington County.
During his last legislative session, Warren said the state budget and transportation will be top priorities.
