Miss. News Briefs: Girl Trapped Underwater Goes Home; Take the Money, But Not the Donuts

JACKSON, Miss.–There’s some good news about a kid who was trapped under water for over five minutes. She’s okay and the doctors said this weekend that she could head to the house. Here are some news briefs to kicks start the work week:

UNDERWATER GIRL GOES HOME
Under water for five minutes before being pulled out. The little girl that happened to in Rankin County, Helena White, just five years old, is out of the hospital. WLBT reports doctors think she’s completely better and they said she could go home Sunday. A stranger pulled her out when he saw the car upside down in a pond.

WEATHER TEMPERED
That pipe busting cold weather, gone for this week. In fact, south Mississippi;ll make it all the way up to 70 today. 50s for the rest of the state. Gets colder tomorrow. 40s north and central, 50s south and at night it’ll be 30s. Not cold enough to do much more damage.

TAKE THE MONEY, BUT NOT THE DONUTS
You can have the money, but don’t take the donuts. Having a gun pointed in your face may not be something you’d expect running a donut shop, but Lee’s Donuts in Meridian was held Saturday morning while people were getting their pastries, reports WTOK. The guy had a mask, though, so nobody got a good look at his face. Slim black guy, 5 ft. 7.

KILLING IN THE PARKING LOT
A killing right in the parking lot of the M&S Convenience store in Gulfport Sunday evening about 5:45. Public place and witnesses, too. Police looking for the shooter today. Black man, 5 ft. 6, 150, wearing a red hoodie and may have been driving a white 2008 Chevy Cobalt. Raymond Hawze, III is the man shot dead.

BLIND WOMAN KILLED IN FIRE
The fire death of a blind woman. This happened Sunday morning in Bolton. Before you got up for church. Her name was Betty Clemons and she was 66. The house, just about totally gone and her relatives say there was no way she could’ve made it out, the way the fire spread.

BREAK IN SHOOTING
Trying to break in to a car lot in West Jackson, now Jamie Rose is dead. That shooting this weekend when the owner says Rose was trying to come in on him Saturday. That’ll go to the grand jury to see if there’s any charges.

TRAIN DEATH
The train horn blowing full blast. Why Cryatal Varner didn’t get out of the way, well they just don’t know. She was hit by the CSX train, right from behind Friday night in Biloxi. She died right there. Today, police trying to find out just what would make her stay on the tracks.

GANG ARRESTS
Shooting into cars, shooting at people. You’ve heard gang activity is happening in Meridian and police are trying to put a lid on it. WTOK reports the arrest of Harvey Anderson and Demetrius Durr just might cut back on some of it.

CORINTH CELL PHONE MURDER
Shooting a man in the back after an argument over a cell phone. Happened Friday night at a house in Corinth. Mike Murphy is dead. Police looking for a 18 to 19 black man. They don’t know his name.
