New Southern Miss Logo Becomes Official

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- All of the controversy and debate surrounding the Golden Eagles logo looks to be finally coming to a close. The new logo is set to go into circulation July 15th.

The university has now completed all of the trademarking and patenting procedures necessary to make the new logo official. This comes in response to a mandate from the U.S. Patent and Trademark office saying that the old logo resembled that of the University of Iowa.

The logo was designed by Rare Design, who’s actually based in Hattiesburg. They are the same group responsible for the edits to the New Orleans Pelicans and Atlanta Hawks logo.

The school asked the public’s opinion back in November, offering two different options, the “Traditional Eye,” and the “Dynamic Eye.” Fans voted, and the Traditional Eye was selected.

Once it goes into circulation on July 15th, it will be available for fans to purchase on all Southern Miss merchandise.
