History made in Jackson County

PASCAGOULA, Miss.- Retirees were allowed to attend a hospital board of trustees meeting for the first time.

This is all thanks to an amendment in the states open meetings law. 20-plus retirees attend the first pubic meeting of the Singing River Health System board of trustees, but for them this is just the beginning.

One of the retiree’s Cynthia Almond told WLOX, “I think it’s a very important step that’s been made today as far as having an open meeting. I think hopefully this will turn out to be a good thing.”

The meeting went well, but did not discuss Almond’s issues about pension. She and the others are hoping that in future meetings there will be more transparency among the trustees so that the hospital can turn things around.
