Water Valley’s 48th Annual Watermelon Carnival will be happening this weekend, August 4th – 5th in Water Valley’s City Park for a weekend of music, crafts, and great food.

The two-day event includes all sorts of watermelon related activities, such as seed spitting, melon eating, and throwing melons. And ice cold watermelon slices will be handed out for free.

In Jackson, the new $74 million School of Medicine building on the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus is giving tours.

They will have a community open house, 9 a.m. to noon, on Saturday.

The self-guided tours will include hosts on each of the building’s five floors.

The 10th Anniversary of the Bikes Blues and Bayous cycling event is happening this Saturday, August 5.

The rides will begin on Howard St. in downtown Greenwood.

Last year 947 riders took part in the cycling event and this year organizers expect over 1,000 riders.
