Blue Bell Voluntary Recall Includes Mississippi, Nobody Sick Here

BRENHAM, Texas–Even though nobody has gotten sick in Mississippi, Blue Bell Ice Cream has included the Magnolia State in its voluntary recall of all of its ice cream products. The company decided to make the historic move for them Monday night.

“Ice cream is a joy and pleasure to eat and I do it every day, and it should never be a cause for concern,” said Paul Kruse, CEO of the family-owned company out of Brenham, Texas. “For that we do apologize and we are going to get it right.”

Kruse released a video on the company’s website.

The reason for the recall is listeria. Five people have gotten sick in Kansas and three in Texas. The infection can be fatal.

“We’re committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe,” said Kruse, “We are heartbroken about this situation and apologize to all of our loyal Blue Bell fans and customers. Our entire history has been about making the very best and highest quality ice cream and we intend to fix this problem.”

The “decision was the result of findings from an enhanced sampling program initiated by Blue Bell which revealed that Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream half gallons produced on March 17, 2015, and March 27, 2015, contained the bacteria,” said the company website.
