OXFORD, Miss. — Ex-Ole Miss basketball star Marshall Henderson is taking some heat after posting an expletive-filled tweet with the hashtag SICKENING about ESPN’s coverage of openly gay football player Michael Sam being drafted by a pro football team.
Henderson tweeted that he was boycotting the cable network’s “Sportscenter” program because of the telecast.
Ole Miss Athletics Director Ross Bjork quickly responded on twitter that he was disappointed and did not condone the twitter comment.
Henderson later explained and apologized on social media. He said the tweet was aimed at helping a gay friend, a psychology major who is researching how people would react to others who say, or act in a manner against other groups of people.
