College Football: OIe Miss, Delta State Get First Losses of the Season; USM Wins

GAINESVILLE, Fla.–Ole Miss came away from Florida this weekend with their first loss of the season. Scoring only one touchdown, during the final quarter, the score was 38 to 10. Next week it’s a match-up against New Mexico State.

The Delta Statesmen, meanwhile, had their first loss of the season also Saturday. The Florida Institute of Technology came to Cleveland and barely squeaked by the Fighting Okra. The final was 41 to 37. Next week it’s a trip to Rome, Georgia for the Okra, to play Shorter U.

Mississippi State did manage to score a couple of touchdowns against the Texas A&M Aggies at College Station Saturday, but it wasn’t enough against a team who did that in the first quarter. The final on that game was 30 to 17.

But for Southern, looking for another win, they now have a winning record for the season, with five games under their belt. (3-2). The Golden Eagles hosted North Texas and beat them quite decisively, 49 to 14. Next up is Marshall in West Virginia.

Jackson State is now sporting four losses for the season, with one win, and that was last week. This Saturday the Tigers fell to Grambling at home 59 to 27. Next week it’s Alabama A&M at Huntsville.

For Alcorn a trip to Pine Bluff to Play Arkansas was a good investment and the win was 61 to 14, giving Alcorn a well-earned week off next Saturday.

Valley remains winless this season, with a 49 to 7 disappointment Saturday against Jacksonville State. Next week it’s a trip to Prairie View.
