Ex-Southaven Mayor Says He Didn’t Misspend Tax Dollars

JACKSON, Miss. – Southaven Mayor Greg Davis sent much of today on the witness stand in his civil trial in Hinds County.

Davis testified that he did include a $67 dollar charge for some underwear that he got at store that caters to gays on his city expense spread sheet, but he said that was an oversight.

Other than that one charge, Davis said that every penny listed on his invoices was for city business.  He said he worked nonstop for the city for 16 years and usually didn’t get receipts because state law didn’t require him to turn them in.

The state auditor is suing Davis claiming that while Mayor, Davis bought thousands of dollars’ worth of stuff from himself with city tax dollars.  The trial is expected to wrap up Friday.
