FAA grants boost Mississippi airports

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved two new Airport Improvement Program grants for South Mississippi, including $2.3 million for the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and $162, 540 for the Picayune Municipal Airport.

The award to the Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport Authority will fund taxiway widening, runway rehabilitation, and security enhancement. This will also reimburse the authority for work done in 2014.

The award to the City of Picayune will fund phases two and three of a taxiway construction program to improve access to aircraft hangars, including design and wetlands mitigation.

In June, the Mississippi Congressional Delegation announced initial FAA Airport Improvement Program grants for airports across the state. Then, 42 grants were approved.
