Governor Phil Bryant just announced the December 2017 unemployment rate and the numbers look good. At 4.6%, it is the lowest unemployment rate Mississippi has ever seen.

Back in October of 2017, the unemployment rate fell to 4.9%, the lowest that it had been since October of 1979, and the numbers keep going down.

“It’s never been this low,” said Governor Phil Bryant. “When we reached 5% unemployment we said it’s historic, we will never go lower than this well, we went to 4.8% and now 4.6%.”

In addition to the lowering unemployment rate, the number of jobs in December 2017 was the most jobs ever recorded in Mississippi. Governor Bryant added that he is looking for the unemployment rate to continue to fall in 2018.
