How to handle IRS scam calls

The Starkville Police Department said they have been receiving numerous complaints of fraudulent IRS calls.

They made a statement on their Facebook page saying:

“We would like to remind our community that government agencies will not call and demand personal information, payments, etc. Scammers will also typically threaten the victim with incarceration or issuance of warrants for noncompliance. If you believe you have been scammed please contact your local law enforcement agency.”

They also provided a video by  The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration explaining what to do if you receive one of these calls. This advice can be helpful to anyone, not just Starkville residents.

Please contact your local law enforcement agency if you have received one of these calls in your area.
