Jackson Workers stealing water

JACKSON, Miss.- Two employees with the Public Works Department have been arrested for stealing water from the city.

Mayor Tony Yarber said that Marcus Banks and Percy Watkins were fired and arrested on charges of stealing water. Police are also investigating 20-30 other employees that could potentially be fired as well.

Spokeswoman for the city Shelia Byrd said that Banks was charged with felony embezzlement for “water theft” valued at $14,000 and going all the way back to 2008. Watkins is being charged with misdemeanor embezzlement reports WLBT.

Customers have been complaining that city workers have taken money from them to keep their water on and authorities have been looking into it.
