Kemper Plant Electrocution, Man Airlifted From Site

KEMPER COUNTY, Miss.–Electrocution is how a man working for an independent contractor at the Kemper County Coal Plant was hurt Monday, according to folks with Mississippi Power. The man was badly injured and suffered an electrical burn.

The man, whose ID was not released, worked for ISC, a contractor working on the plant, which is currently still in the construction phase.

The injury happened Monday morning and the man was airlifted from the scene and ended up at a Memphis hospital, reported WTOK.

Jeff Shepard, a spokesman for the plant, told the TV station that the man was stabilized before he was flown out, but had no further information on his condition.

The plant is being constructed to run on lignite and will be unique to the state when in operation. It’s construction has been contraversial because the technology, some claim, is largely untested and the construction has been excessively expensive, the cost being passed on to Miss. Power customers on their monthly bills.
