North Panola Shooting Likely Gang-Related, Como v. Sardis

SARDIS, Miss.–A Friday night football game shooting at North Panola was likely gang-related, according to District Atty. John Champion. Three men with known gang ties are now charged with capital murder and it’s likely that victim Roderick Bobo, 15, was not an innocent bystander.

The DA and sheriff held a joint press conference Monday afternoon and announced they had arrested Quintarius Mabry and Darius Dante McNeil, both of Como, and Jermaine Haynes of Sardis, and charged the three with capital murder.

Bobo was shot in the chest and two others were hurt by bullets in the same exchange of gunfire.

“I know it’s been classified as Sardis v. Como, which is what it is,” said Champion. “We’re still going to treat this as more of a gang situation because there were two groups of young men out there that were armed on the North Panola campus.”

The sheriff described victim Bobo as an athlete who got off on a “bad track”.

Champion said his office is looking into the possibility that the school shooting is related to a nightclub shooting earlier in the evening and even possibly to a third incident where a man waved a gun at Greenhill Elementary.
