The Kidnapping of Katelyn Beard: Police: “We’re Just Trying to See Where the Body’s At”

JACKSON, Miss.–You saw the Amber Alert Sunday when Katelyn Beard went missing. Now police have the man they ID’d as the kidnapper, Deayne Thompson. He was captured Monday when cops chased him down. But, Beard is still missing.

Jackson Police were searching an area near I-220 in Jackson for Beard Monday afternoon. That’s where the gray Nissan Altima they were in was found abandoned behind a hydraulics business.

“”We’re just trying to see where the body’s at,” said Officer Colendula Green to media.

They used dogs and people on foot, but nothing was found in the woods near the business. Them a short time later, Thompson was in cuffs. He was spotted near where the car was found.

Police think he shot Beard in a house and then took her. Police said they found evidence of that, including a blood trail.

They released that information Sunday morning. An Amber Alert went out state-wide Sunday afternoon.

Beard is a white female, 17, 5 ft. 4 and 140 lbs. If you can help police find her, call the Mississippi Highway Patrol at 855-642-5378 or Jackson Police.
