CANTON, Miss. – A domestic dispute between a stepfather and stepdaughter lead to an officer involved shooting in Canton Monday morning.

It happened before 10:00 a.m. at a home when a 52-year-old Torres Harris and his stepdaughter 23 year old Melissa Primer began arguing. Harris shot Primer multiple times in their driveway.  She is at the hospital in critical condition. Harris ran to nearby Peace Street Coin Laundry where he was confronted by Madison County Deputy Bubba Thomas and Canton Police Officer Eugene Luckett.

The two told Harris to drop the weapon. When he did not comply and yelled “I’m not going to jail,” while pointing his weapon at the officers, Harris was shot dead. Deputy Bubba Thomas and Canton Police Officer Eugene Luckett are both on administrative leave following the shooting.
