MDMR Workers Fess Up, Avoid Jail Time

Three former Mississippi Department of Marine Resources employees pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony charges for their roles in receiving payment for false travel expenses, but none will serve time behind bars.

Leslie Gollott admitted to one count of embezzlement.  She was paid for travel expenses incurred in 2009 and did not return the money.   She was sentenced to 10 years in prison with eight suspended; and two to be served on house arrest.  Gollott will also pay more than $30,000 in restitution.

Susan Perkins and Grant Larsen both pleaded guilty to one count of false pretense.  Perkins admitted that she was paid for travel expenses not due her and that she never returned.  While, Larsen said he took an advance travel payment before a pre-approved trip.  He was overpaid, but he kept the money too.  Both will serve two years probation; and Perkins must pay nearly $700 in restitution.
