MHP concludes Christmas enforcement period, reports zero fatalities

The Mississippi Highway Patrol concluded its 2017 Christmas holiday travel period which began Friday, December 22, at 6 p.m. and ended Monday, December 25 at midnight.

MHP issued 4226 citations with 61 DUI arrests. 157 motor vehicle crashes were investigated which included 40 injuries on state, federal highways, and interstates.

MHP also had a very successful holiday period with 0 fatalities being recorded.

“We attribute this to the high visibility of all available Troopers and responsible decisions made by motorists traveling on the roadways,” said Captain Johnny Poulos with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Poulos added that the highly publicized MHP safety initiative “Making it Home for the Holidays” will continue through the end of the year in order to promote traffic safety.”
