Miss Mississippi Preps for Miss America Pageant

JACKSON, Miss.- Mississippi has high hopes that Miss Mississippi, Jasmine Murray, will bring home the national crown this year for Miss America.

Murray was crowned Miss Mississippi July 12. Now she gets to keep up the intense training and go after Miss America’s top spot shortly after her state crowning.

“I’m so excited and ready. I’ll actually be leaving September 1st to go down to Atlantic City,” Murray told Paul Gallo on SuperTalk’s Gallo Show.

There’s a lot of preparation that goes into getting ready for this pageant. The ladies must be fit, ready for interviews, work on their talent and do some shopping. “We have at least 26 to 30 outfits I will actually have to wear during the time I’m there,” Murray said.

She followed her dreams to compete on the American Idol stage at 16-years-old and will take away the stage with another song at 22-years-old on the Miss America stage singing, Christina Aguilera’s remix of “Something’s Got a Hold of Me.”

“That’s actually the song I performed at Miss Mississippi as well. I’m really excited, I love the song. I think it’s very entertaining and high energy and just very fun, so I can’t wait to perform it at Miss America.”

The parade is set for Saturday, September 13, and Miss America 2015 will be crowned Sunday, September 14.

You can watch Jasmine Murray compete for the crown September 14 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.

You can also support Miss Mississippi by choosing her as the contestant you would like to see become America’s Choice during the national pageant.
