Mississippi honors National Police Week

National Police Week runs May 15-20 and there are many services honoring police officers scheduled across the state this week.

The week of remembrance was started in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Here are a few of the events scheduled in Mississippi this week:

Tupelo

Northeast Mississippi Law Enforcement Memorial Service

Jackson

The Department of Public Safety Annual Tribute to the Agency’s Fallen Officers

Tuesday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m.

Keynote Speaker: Lt. Governor Tate Reeves

DPS headquarters located at 1900 East Woodrow Wilson Boulevard in Jackson.

 

Jackson Police Department Memorial Service 

Thursday, May 18th at 9:30am

Keynote Speaker: Harold Brittain, Acting U.S. Attorney, Southern District of Mississippi
