Last week Governor Phil Bryant announced that the October unemployment rate in Mississippi decreased to 4.9%, which tied the May rate as the lowest level of unemployment ever recorded in Mississippi history.

The number of unemployed Mississippians fell to the lowest level since October 1979, and the number of jobs rose to the highest level since May 2008.

Governor Bryant said that Mississippi has become a global leader in skilled manufacturing in the aerospace, shipbuilding, and automotive sectors.

“We are growing our presence in tire manufacturing, with Yokohama Tire Corp. and Cooper Tires already employing Mississippians, and Continental Tire building its most advanced facility ever in Hinds County,” said Governor Bryant. “Those wins and other successes have landed us in the top 6 nationally for manufacturing jobs created per capita. We will continue to build the most business-friendly environment in America here in Mississippi.
