Mississippi State Bulldog fans already knew that Montez Sweat was a first round talent, but it was at the NFL Combine that he truly burst into the national spotlight. Unfortunately for Sweat, his combine physical revealed a pre-existing heart condition, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The good news for Sweat is that the doctors deemed his condition to be “low-risk”, and he was able to fully participate in Indianapolis. Sweat’s agent also didn’t seem too concerned based on the message he sent to Rapoport.
“Because of privacy issues, we are not allowed to comment specifically. But I will tell you that this is not news. Montez is the same person that was medically cleared to play and dominate the SEC, the Senior Bowl, and the NFL combine. No change in health and no change in domination!”
The condition never affected Sweat while he was in Starkville, and a report from the Athletic stated that the condition likely won’t affect his draft stock.
The 6’6, 260 lbs defensive end was already considered a first-round prospect before the combine, but his stock has risen, and he may end up becoming a top-10 pick in April’s draft.
Sweat’s 4.41 40-yard dash was the fastest 40-time by any DL in the history of the NFL Combine.
