Monticello detainee found unresponsive in jail cell, pronounced dead at scene

A man is confirmed to have passed away in a holding cell at a Mississippi jail.

First reported by The Daily Leader, officials have verified that 46-year-old Johnathon Neal was found unresponsive at the Lincoln County Jail. Neal was discovered in an unresponsive state around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The detainee was pronounced deceased at the scene after he did not respond to life-saving measures performed by first responders.

According to Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing, Neal was being held on a probation violation warrant from Lawrence County for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will look into the cause of Neal’s death.
