TUPELO, Miss–More and more visitors have been stopping in Tupelo to see Elvis Presley’s birthplace lately.
According to the employees at the birthplace, the rise in visitors isn’t surprising.
“The growth is coming from last year, we opened our new addition, which is a 10,000 square ft. addition to the main building,” Blair Hill assistant director for the Elvis Presley Birthplace.
The small, shotgun-style home isn’t the only reason to now come and visit.
“We added an events center, a 126-seat theater, an outside amphitheater, and we’re doing a lot more events around the region,” said Hill.
The 75,000 people that actually pay to enter the grounds is way lower than the number that comes to see the home itself said Hill because many just drive past or get out an snap a quick picture.
He says his favorite addition is the new theater that plays a movie about Elvis’ childhood in Tupelo.
