Pit Bull Attack: Benton County Man Dead From Wounds

BENTON COUNTY, Miss.–It was a pit bull attack Saturday that killed David Glass, Sr., of Benton County. He was found in a ditch near his house and flown to a Memphis hospital after the mauling. He died later.

The man who police believe owns the dogs was arrested. Eric Hodges is charged with culpable negligence manslaughter. He was released on a $25,000 bond.

The dogs were also taken into custody and are in Marshall County. Action News 5 in Memphis reported that the dogs could be put to sleep if authorities determine for sure that they are the ones responsible.

Sheriff’s deputies found three dogs running loose and three more tied up.

“This is unreal to know that I just talked to him on the phone,” David Glass Jr. told the TV station. He drove up to Memphis from Starkville after the attack and he and other family members believed Glass would live.

Benton County supervisors told the TV station that they are working on an animal control ordinance for the county.
