JACKSON, Miss.—Thirteen private schools could soon be out of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA). The MHSAA sponsors sports and competitions like debate and music.
The MHSAA includes 265 high schools and about 250 middle schools. Most private schools in Mississippi are members of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.
According to WCBI, a principal from northwest Mississippi made the suggestion to give them the boot, saying private schools have an unfair advantage when it comes to recruiting students.
If that vote goes through Thursday, they will have another in February before it is final.
