Scammers Harvesting Your Money

JACKSON, Miss. — Attorney General Jim Hood says someone is trying to rip off black farmers and their families.

“It has been brought to our attention that there are individuals [and] organizations who are holding meetings statewide and charging a fee to help black farmers file claims and participate in lawsuits when, in fact, the deadline to do so has long-since passed,” said Hood “We are looking into these allegations and what we can do about them, but feel the need to warn consumers to be wary.”
The federal courts did give final approval to a settlement in the class action lawsuit, Pigford vs. Glickman that alleged racial discrimination against black farmers from 1981-1996.  But the deadline to file a claim was May of last year.
