WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Thad Cochran was appointed to serve on the Eisenhower Memorial Commission (EMC) by Senator Pat Roberts, Chairman of the EMC.
The commission was created in Public Law 106-79 back in 1991 with a goal of creating a memorial in Washington D.C. to honor Dwight D. Eisenhower for his service to the nation. Eisenhower served as President of the United States and a military leader.
Now, the EMC consists of a bipartisan group of twelve commissioners. There are four from the U.S. House of Representatives and four from the United States Senate; also four citizen commissioners appointed by the President.
Sen. Cochran was appointed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome my good friend, Thad Cochran, to the Eisenhower Memorial Commission. Those of us who have the honor of serving on the commission are charged with the important task of ensuring future generations of Americans lean about the remarkable legacy of a great President, and Kansas favorite son, Dwight D. Eisenhower. We look forward to having Senator Cochran alongside us as we begin construction of the memorial. The commission expects to break ground for the memorial this fall,” said Senator Roberts.
“Dwight Eisenhower was one of the great heroes of my youth, and I am honored to be part of the effort to build a memorial honoring his life and legacy. The Commission was established to create a memorial to inspire future generations to emulate President Eisenhower’s dedication to public service, leadership, integrity, and devotion to American Democratic values. I am committed to helping achieve that goal. It’s a privilege for me to join my friend Pat Roberts in this effort,” said Cochran.
