Southern Miss Has to Make a Change–And You Get to Weigh In

HATTIESBURG, Miss– The Golden Eagle football logo looks too much like the Iowa Hawkeye logo. Change has to be made, so USM is putting the decision to the people.

In 2011, the United States Patent and Trademark Office ruled that Southern Miss’s golden eagle football logo was too much like the design for the Iowa Hawkeyes, so USM has to make the change. WDAM reports that Southern Miss alumnus Rodney Richardson and his design company Rare Design have come up with two choices for the new logo. In order to get a logo that pleases Southern Miss fans, the issue is up for vote on the logo website.

Votes and comments will be accepted on the logo until November 21, which is when the logo will be sent to the US Patent and Trademark office for approval, which could take up to a year. The new logo will be effective as soon as the  USPTO approves.
