Two Cousins Arrested for the Shooting Murder of Football Coach and Former Millsaps Standout Juan Joseph

BATON ROUGE, La.- Two cousins have been arrested in the shooting death of former Conerly Trophy winner and Millsaps College football standout Juan Joseph.

Joseph was the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2006. From his time at Millsaps, he went on to play in the CFL and played arena football before returning to his hometown and becoming a football coach at West St. John High School.

Joseph was shot in the parking lot of a nightclub around 2 a.m. Sunday after an argument with some men.

Cpl. Don Coppola tells The Advocate 25-year-old Kendric Lentrell Cloud is accused of shooting the 27-year-old coach outside Allure nightclub.

Coppola says Cloud was arrested Tuesday night, as was the alleged getaway driver, 25-year-old Lemark Cloud.

Kendric Cloud has been charged with second-degree murder. Lemark Cloud faces charges of accessory to second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

“Juan Joseph was not just an employee of this school system, but an important part of the community,” said Superintendent Kevin George in a statement. “Our prayers are with his family, as well as the entire West St. John High family.”

Friends and family are honoring Joseph’s memory at West St. John High School’s first football playoff game of the season on Friday, Nov. 21 with a 27-balloon salute and a moment of silence. Friends have established a memorial fund for Joseph’s family through Capital One Bank.
