Wounded Tupelo Officer Getting Better

TUPELO, Miss.  – Tupelo Police Officer Joseph Maher’s condition has been upgraded from critical to serious but stable condition.

He was one of two officers shot while responding to a Monday bank robbery.

Friends say Maher can communicate using hand signals; but his road to recovery is expected to be a long one.

Maher is scheduled to undergo the first of several reconstructive surgeries Thursday afternoon.

Corporal Gale Stauffer died during the shootout.  Visitation for him is Thursday afternoon; and he will be laid to rest Friday.
