800 Mississippians Without Power

HOUSTON, Miss. – CenterPoint Energy reports cutting gas service to approximately 800 customers. They say it was an equipment malfunction at the point where the company receives natural gas from its supplier.

“Safety is our number one priority, and there was never any danger to the community,” said Bobby Burns, operations director for CenterPoint Energy. “Later today, our certified service technicians will begin performing a series of safety checks to ensure there is no risk involved in restoring gas service. We have also brought in technicians from other parts of our service territory to assist in restoring gas service.”

“There is no need to call us as we make our initial assessments,” Burns added. “And while we anticipate restoring service to most customers today, any premise that is not restored by 9 p.m. will be scheduled for completion Thursday starting at 6 a.m.

According to CenterPoint Energy, no action is required on the part of the customer.
