Miss. News Briefs: Serious Wreck on the Border, Mysterious Murder in Wayne County

KEWANEE, Miss.–A wreck Monday night had a child in the hospital with serious injuries. That wreck also hurt plenty of people. Here are some news briefs for Tuesday, to take your mind off Ebola and other concerns:

SERIOUS WRECK ON THE BORDER
A wreck on the Mississippi-Alabama border, and at least one person is dead, five others hurt, including a toddler, who was airlifted to Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson. It happened Monday night on I-20 and everybody who was hurt was in a vehicle from Alabama, reports WTOK.

TUPELO TEEN MISSING
If you’ve seen Kamaya Calomese, call Tupelo Police. She is missing and was last seen Sunday night about 9. She’s black, 14, 5 ft. 5, 110 lbs., last seen wearing a black sweatshirt with white lettering and a pair of light colored jeans.

ROOMMATE STABBING
Taking not liking his roommate too far, at least that’s what cops say. Charles Davis and Collin Smalls lived together at the normally peaceful La Fleur Haven retirement home, until they got into a big fracas in August and Davis stabbed Smalls to death. A hearing Monday and Davis got a $200,000 bond. He says it was self defense. WAPT reports at grand jury could decide.

MYSTERIOUS MURDER
How Michael Henderson died in Wayne County, the sheriff’s department isn’t saying much. But they did say he was found on the side of the road Friday about 4 p.m. His body is in for an autopsy and if you know anything about it, a call to the sheriff or Crimestoppers would be a good idea.

UTILITY SCAM
It’s a scam alert. News Mississippi has learned that people claiming to be your utility company want to take a bite out of the old wallet. This one’s coming from Northern Dist. Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley. He says they call or send you a letter saying you haven’t paid and they’re gonna cut you off unless you send the money. Don’t do it. Call your power company first.
