JACKSON, Miss– Clouds and rain in the weekend forecast for the Magnolia state. Some need to prepare for round two of nasty weather.
In north and central Mississippi, it’s a forecast of light rain rolling in this afternoon and evening. The chance of showers, maybe a thunderstorm or two, sticks around through the weekend.
For south Mississippi, it’s a flood watch through Sunday afternoon.
“We could see two to four inches of rain this weekend,” says Eric Carpenter with the National Weather Service.
The fear in a lot of minds isn’t just the rain, it’s the severe weather.
“There’s a small chance for a tornado or high wind,” says Carpenter, “but for the most part, the weather won’t be too severe. Nothing like we saw Tuesday.”
That could be a relief in the minds of those in Marion and Jones counties, who are still picking up the pieces from Tuesday’s tornadoes that claimed four lives. Governor Phil Bryant declared a state of emergency there. Power wasn’t fully restored to those areas until Christmas Day.
“We don’t expect anything too severe for this weekend,” says Carpenter.
