Kosciusko Citizens to Have Election for Sale of Liquor

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.- Residents of the city of Kosciusko are tired of not being able to have a stiff drink at the end of the day. A group of citizens passed out a petition to set a referendum election for the legal sale of liquors in the city of Kosciusko.

City Clerk Hart Pettit told News Mississippi that they needed over 900 signatures on the petitions to call an election, and recieved that, as well as many other petitions. They certified enough to follow the law, and call an election.

“If you look at the number of petitions turned in by registered voters and compare that to the number of voters that we normally have in a city-wide election, the odds are fairly good, but we won’t know until June 9th,” Pettit added.

As he said, the election to decide whether or not they will sell liquor in Kosciusko will be June 9th.
