CORINTH, Miss. — The Elvis impersonator framed in a Mississippi ricin case has filed a federal lawsuit against the government.
Paul Kevin Curtis, of Corinth, was arrested in 2013 and charged with sending the poisoned laced letters to the President, Senator Robert Wicker and a Lee County judge. The charges were eventually dropped.
Curtis’ lawyer said his client was held in jail for seven days even though investigators knew they were holding the wrong person. Attorney Hal Neilson said Curtis’ life has not been the same since his arrest and he’s been unable to find a job.
In his suit, Curtis wants damages from the government, particularly the FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s office and the Department of Justice/Homeland Security.
The person who Curtis said used some of his common phrases in a social media post to make it appear he sent the ricin laced letters is in jail. James Everett Dutschke is serving a 25 year sentence at a federal prison in Colorado.
